Week 14, first blog!

So after much urging from Kelcey, I'm starting a blog about my pregnancy/baby/life. Today marks the first day of my 2nd trimester. Thank you, Jesus. The 1st was tough to say the least. Morning sickness is a lie, I had all day sickness. But, as all of the mothers in my life kept reminding me, the sickness means TONS of hormones- which usually means a very healthy baby. So despite the horror that was the 1st trimester, all of the sickness was strangely reassuring. We had a sonogram at 12 weeks, and our baby is a wiggle worm! I can't tell you how bizarre it was to see that there was an actual human inside of me...a human that loves to move his/her arms and legs! I was SHOCKED to see that our baby actually looks like...well, a baby! I didn't see that coming. At my last appointment "pebble" (that's what we're calling the baby so we don't have to call him/her 'it'...get it? A pebble is a baby stone-I know, dorky)  looked like a bean. All of this is amazing.

I suscribe to weekly emails from babycenter.com that give me updates on my baby's weekly growth. I received this today: This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

No wonder I'm so tired. Building a baby is hard work.
